Sgt Laher aims for the sky

Members of the Armed Forces are joining the British Muslim community at their 2014 Living Islam Festival.

Representatives from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force have been invited to attend by the Islamic Society of Britain. The only national event of its kind, Muslims from across Britain and beyond will attend the four-day religious festival (31st July – 3rd August) at the Lincolnshire Showground.

Front-line men and women of the Armed Forces including soldiers, sailors and air personnel of the Armed Forces Muslim Association will deliver a multi-media presentation about their roles, which include providing humanitarian aid and disaster relief in the wake of a natural disaster and protecting UK citizens at home and abroad.

Members of the Armed Forces Muslim Association joined by Imam Asim Hafiz, Islamic adviser to the Ministry of Defence, will also take questions from the audience about the life of a Muslim in the Armed Forces.

Over 5,000 people are expected to attend the festival, with the presentations repeated on a daily basis. Friday’s Question and Answer session was hosted by Major General Robert Nitsch and questions on behalf of the Army were answered by Brigadier Mark Abraham. Air Commodore Alan Opie spoke on behalf of the RAF and Commodore Jim Lines on behalf of the Royal Navy.
